Airports

Tampa is the largest nearby airport; it’s approximately 50 miles and usually a 75-minute drive away. Sarasota’s airport is smaller and closer (40 minutes), but often has higher fares, as does St. Petersburg-Clearwater airport (50 minutes). Other airports that sometimes offer reasonable fares are Orlando (120 miles) and Fort Myers (110 miles).

You can take a taxi from the airports to the island for a flat fare: about $100 from Tampa and about $50 from Sarasota.

From Sarasota/Bradenton airport, go north on Tamiami Trail (US 41) to Cortez Rd.  Turn Left (west) on Cortez, go to the traffic light at 75th Street, then turn Right (north) and continue until the traffic light at Manatee Ave.  Turn Left (west), go over drawbridge, through a traffic light to Stop Sign, then turn Right (north) on Gulf Drive.  Holmes Beach runs from Beach Drive to 27th St. off Gulf Drive.

From I-75, take FL-64, exit 220. Go west through downtown Bradenton.  Continue on Manatee Ave., go over drawbridge, through a traffic light to Stop Sign.  Turn Right (north) on Gulf Drive.  Holmes Beach runs from Beach Drive to 27th St. off Gulf Drive.
